Boetry in Motion
Boetry in Motion at Fleadh 2023
Intercultural Language Service presents Boetry in Motion, an open mic on a canal barge with migrant and local poets and musicians in Mullingar’s historic harbour for Fleadh 2023 August 6th 5 pm. We look forward to meeting you all and sharing the rich linguistic and cultural diversity of Ireland in the 21st Century and a warm Fleadh homecoming for all.
Boetry in Motion is designed to raise intercultural consciousness and sow solidarity for Newcomers to Ireland by showcasing the voices of refugees and New Irish Citizens sharing their poems, stories and songs from a barge on the Royal Canal. Dublin charity, Intercultural Language Service, which has been providing free language & integration training for refugees for seven years, hopes this event will help raise much needed awareness and recruit volunteers to deal with the growing demand for their services. Much of the poetry in the many original languages, with translations, and some of the music will be delivered by the students of ILS and migrants and locals from Westmeath and beyond.

Boetry at Phizzfest 2022
Boetry in Motion is designed to raise intercultural awareness and sow solidarity by showcasing the voices of refugees and New Irish Citizens sharing their poems, stories and songs from a boat on the Royal Canal at the Phizzfest 2022. A fleet of barges sailed into Phizzfest with these poets and musicians on board to perform first on the canal from 6 – 8 pm and then at the Bernard Shaw with more spoken word and live music from 8 – 11 pm. Local charity, Intercultural Language Service (ILS), which has been providing free language & integration training for refugees for over six years in Ballybough, is this event will help raise much needed funds and volunteers to deal with the growing demand for their services. Much of the poetry and some of the music will be delivered by the students of ILS.
We had a fantastic evening and well done to all our poets from around the world. We hope to keep repeating this event around Irish waterways through the summer and Autumn!
