10 Years of Our Stories
​Refugee Week 2026

This retrospective is based on several activities and actions we have promoted over the last ten years which all have some elements of sharing intercommunity stories and all seek to build understanding and harmony among the rich diversities of our part of this wonderful city.

Program for the week

Monday 11 am – 'Wall of Courage', attendees will write about the theme of Refugee Week, Courage, on the wall of the library. Followed by a Portrait Exhibition Launch*
Wednesday 10 am - 12  – Creative Plurilingual Writing Workshop+
Thursday 10 am - 12  – Storytelling Workshop#
Friday 2 - 4 pm  - International Food Party

* Our artist in residence, Nassouh Hossari, has updated his insightful work on ILS member portraits along with brief glimpses of their stories - see the initial exhibition here: My Picture; My Story


+ Our wonderful poet in residence, Fiona Bolger, will facilitate a plurilingual poetry writing workshop where experience is not needed but shared - see the work she has done over the years here: Dubylon; a tower of verse 
                              
#Our award-winning Intercultural Storytelling is led by our founder, Dr Peter Sheekey, and is a fun way of sharing our lived experiences with people from different cultures or backgrounds, and learning more about ourselves and others in the process - see the work and download our storybooks here:

Bring and share food from your culture and taste the world with music, spoken word and friends! Live music from Aziz Abushark who will entertain us with his Kanoun playing, here he is in the company of Mary Black:
